1. Why did the Puritan's leave England and venture to a new land?
-They were not religion wise free when Charles the I ascended to the throne, so they left to pursue their religion
2. Explain how the Puritan's felt about freedom of religion.
-They were not interested in religion freedom at all.
3. How important is the church in Puritan society? Explain.
-Church was the most important point in a society, societies were built around the churches because they were the most important places of it.
4. What is excommunication?
-Excommunication means to get "expelled" out of a church and/or religion
5. Why were church leaders so influential/powerful in Puritan communities?
-Church leaders were really influential because they used threatening such as excommunication because of Satan's influence under the human mind.
6. How does religion today compare to the Puritan's idea of religion?
-Throughout the years, the church has lost influence because the have deceived their followers and these extreme ideas are not believable anymore.
7. Why was witchcraft often the explanation for illness?
-The lack of technology in medicinal sciences made that some sicknesses were hard to diagnose, so doctors just claimed this was witchcraft.
8. What scientific explanation was given by Caporeal as to the cause of the mysterious behavior in Salem?
-She suggested that this fits were caused by ergot poisoning

1. Describe the life of a Puritan Child.
-They were discouraged to play, create, grow their imagination and express themselves. they were forced to work as adults doing chores and attending to church; boys had to craft, fish, hunt explore and do hard work and girls were forced to help their mothers to sew, cook, and help maintained the house and do chores.

-Everyone was forced to go to church, men and women were in different sides of the church, sleeping in church was a sin.

-going to church was like a law, they believed that if a neighbor had a misfortune it was gods will and they wouldn't help, they said that falling asleep in church was a sin as well as stealing food

-Follow god

-Because church enforced the idea of the devil and people thought of it as real as god

-Residents of Salem Village were mostly poor farmers who made their living cultivating crops in the rocky terrain. Salem Town, on the other hand, was a prosperous port town at the center of trade with London.

-For many years, Salem Village tried to gain independence from Salem Town. The town, which depended on the farmers for food, determined crop prices and collected taxes from the village.

-Parris was a stern Puritan who denounced the worldly ways and economic prosperity of Salem Town as the influence of the Devil. His rhetoric further separated the two factions within Salem Village.

-He was a young senator that made a very serious accusation and was that more than 200 people had infiltrated the United States government. It was proven that the accusations were untrue so the senate censored him.
2. What feelings of the American psyche or events of the time allowed for McCarthyism to become such a prominent movement in the 1950´s?
-America was overwhelmed with concerns about the threat of communism growing in Eastern Europe and China.
3. What effect did McCarthyism have on artists and entertainers?
-The arts were dumped in the garbage. McCarthy stopped artistic careers for having a certain "influence" on people. Artists in response started making revolutionary works and messages.
